Privacy Policy
Last Updated: July 17, 2025
This Privacy Policy explains how VelociTracker collects, uses, stores, and protects your information when you use our mobile application ("App"). We are committed to safeguarding your privacy and ensuring that your personal information is handled responsibly.
1. Information We Collect
The App collects the following types of information:
1.1 Personal Information
User-Provided Information: The App allows you to input and track information related to your routes, including:
- Route coordinates (latitude and longitude), distance, start time, elapsed time, speed entries, transport mode (car, bicycle, or running), elevation gain, and estimated travel time.
- Search queries for locations when using the search functionality.
User Preferences: The App stores your preferences, such as:
- Whether you have launched the App before (via UserDefaults to manage the first-launch experience).
- Unit preferences (metric or imperial) and map type settings (standard or satellite).
1.2 Automatically Collected Information
Location Data: With your permission, the App collects precise location data (latitude, longitude, speed, and altitude) via your device's GPS when location services are enabled. This data is used to:
- Track your route in real-time when you start a route.
- Center the map on your current location.
- Calculate route metrics such as distance, speed, and elevation gain.
- The App supports background location updates to continue tracking routes when the App is in the background, if permitted by you.
No Other Automatic Data: The App does not collect device identifiers, usage analytics, or other data automatically, except for location data as described above.
2. How We Use Your Information
The information you provide or that is collected is used solely to:
- Enable you to track, save, view, and analyze routes within the App, including displaying routes on a map and generating statistics (e.g., distance, speed, elevation gain).
- Store your route data and settings locally on your device using UserDefaults for persistence.
- Provide navigation features, such as searching for locations and calculating routes with estimated travel times based on your selected transport mode.
- Display a speed vs. time graph and other visualisations based on your route data.
- Allow you to copy route details to your device’s clipboard for sharing or personal use.
We do not use your information for purposes beyond the App’s functionality, such as marketing, analytics, or third-party sharing, unless explicitly stated below.
3. Data Storage and Security
Local Storage: All route data (coordinates, speed entries, etc.) and user preferences are stored locally on your device using UserDefaults. The App does not transmit your data to external servers or cloud services.
Security Measures: We rely on the security features of iOS and UserDefaults to protect your data. You are responsible for securing your device to prevent unauthorized access to the App and its data.
Data Retention: Your data remains on your device until you delete the App or manually remove routes. We do not have access to or control over this data.
4. Sharing Your Information
No Third-Party Sharing: We do not share, sell, or transfer your personal information, including location data or route details, to any third parties, except as required by law or with your explicit consent.
Clipboard Sharing: If you choose to copy route details to your device’s clipboard, you may share this information with others at your discretion. Be cautious when sharing sensitive information, such as location data, as we are not responsible for how others use this data.
Location-Based Services: The App uses Apple’s MapKit and CoreLocation frameworks to provide mapping and location services. These services may process your search queries and location data locally on your device to provide search results and route calculations, but this data is not shared with us or other third parties.
5. Your Choices and Rights
Location Permissions: The App requires access to your location to function properly. You can:
- Grant "Always" or "While Using the App" location access to enable real-time and background tracking.
- Deny or revoke location access through your device’s settings, which will disable route tracking and map centering features.
Access and Control: You have full control over the routes you save. You can view, edit, or delete routes at any time through the App’s interface.
Data Deletion: To remove all data stored by the App, you can delete the App from your device. This will erase all routes and settings stored in UserDefaults.
Background Tracking: You can disable background location updates in your device settings, which will stop tracking when the App is in the background. Note that this may affect the accuracy of route tracking.
6. Third-Party Services
The App uses Apple’s MapKit and CoreLocation frameworks for mapping and location services. These services operate locally on your device and do not transmit data to us or third parties beyond what is necessary for their functionality (e.g., processing search queries or route calculations). The App does not integrate with any other third-party services, analytics tools, or advertising networks.
7. Battery and Resource Usage
The App may consume significant battery power due to continuous location tracking, especially during route recording or background use. We recommend closing the App when not actively tracking routes to conserve battery life, as noted in the first-launch warning.
8. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the App’s functionality or legal requirements. Any updates will be posted within the App or on our website or other channels of distribution, with the "Last Updated" date revised accordingly. Your continued use of the App after such changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
9. Contact Us
If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions about this Privacy Policy or the App’s data practices, please contact us at:

10. Governing Law
This Privacy Policy is governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the App is distributed, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
By using VelociTracker, you agree to the terms outlined in this Privacy Policy.
